Copenhagen / Bern, 29 August 2023. Denmark wants to transform its existing payment system for public transport with a fully digital solution and make it even easier for travelers. FAIRTIQ has now reached another milestone within a few months to closely accompany this process: As one of only four suppliers, the Swiss company will be allowed to participate in tenders concerning software solutions for the future ticketing system in Denmark over the next eight years.

"The new framework agreement proves once again how strongly FAIRTIQ is positioned when it comes to digitalising public transport ticketing and making it easier for everyone," says Gian-Mattia Schucan, founder and co-CEO of FAIRTIQ. Already in April Danish Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S (RKRP) had signed an important framework agreement with FAIRTIQ and four other companies, which were selected in a multi-stage process from a pool of 21 bidders. Only they will be allowed to participate in tenders for the project, which is worth a maximum of 67 million euros, over the next eight years.

The new agreement goes one step further because it restricts both the scope of application and the group of participants more: From a total of 11 applications, FAIRTIQ was selected as one of only four providers. Besides FAIRTIQ, only one other provider was allowed to sign both the first and second framework agreements. The Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) agreement with a budget of maximum 53 million euros will play a key role in rolling out the fully digital national solution that will enable users to use buses, trains, metros and light rail throughout the whole of Denmark seamlessly via an app.

FAIRTIQ's market-leading technology already masters this: the app-based check-in/check-out solution is already successfully in use in many regions in various European countries. When boarding buses and trains, a swipe on the smartphone is sufficient to register the start of the journey. A further swipe when getting off the bus or train completes the cost recording. If someone forgets to check out, the app can even do it automatically.
