Bern, 9. April 2024. FAIRTIQ, leading provider of mobile In-/Out-ticketing solutions, is pleased to announce the first version of Rejsekort as an app, representing a milestone in public transport ticketing in Denmark. In 2023, the card-based Check-in/Check-out Rejsekort was used as a means of payment for more than 176 million journeys by bus, train, metro and light rail across the country.
Developed within a tight timeline following the contract award, the mobile PAYG (Pay-as-you-go) app will be gradually rolled out to streamline the passenger experience while offering enhanced convenience and efficiency. The development of Rejsekort as an app underscores FAIRTIQ's commitment to innovation and responsiveness to market demands. Leveraging robust technology and industry expertise, FAIRTIQ's team has diligently worked to deliver a solution that aligns with the needs of Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S and the Danish public transport users.
Despite the challenges posed by the strict timeline, FAIRTIQ has successfully navigated the development process, ensuring a timely launch of Rejsekort as an app featuring core functionalities. Previous internal tests have shown that the journey mapping accuracy is very high and a usability test resulted in an "excellent" score.
Starting now, the app is officially available in the App Store - it will be added to the Google PlayStore later today. To further gather valuable user feedback and test market acceptance of the app's core features, only a limited number of end-users will be able to use the app initially. The available seats, as well as the app's functionalities, will be gradually increased over time.
"We are pleased to introduce Rejsekort as an app to the Danish market," says FAIRTIQ founder and co-CEO Gian-Mattia Schucan. "This milestone reflects our dedication to delivering innovative solutions that enhance the public transport experience. We believe that Rejsekort as an app will offer tangible benefits to passengers across Denmark."
One notable feature of Rejsekort as an app is that it eliminates the need for users to manually check-in when changing lines. The app automatically detects transfers without any action required by the user, ensuring a smooth & hassle-free travel experience for the users. Furthermore, the smart check-out function automatically detects the end of the trip and makes sure that users don’t overpay if they forget to check-out. These features offer added convenience and peace of mind compared to tap-in/tap-out systems.
As FAIRTIQ continues to refine and optimise Rejsekort as an app, the company remains committed to delivering a solution that sets new standards for convenience, reliability, and accessibility in public transport ticketing.

Travelling with FAIRTIQ
Before boarding a train, tram or bus, passengers check in by swiping the app. This means they have a valid ticket for the entire public transport network in the corresponding region. When they arrive at their destination, they swipe again to end the cost calculation. The app uses location services to register the route travelled and calculates the correct fare.
