London, United Kingdom – 31.03.2026 – Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S and technology partner FAIRTIQ have been honoured with the Silver Award for ‘National Integrated Ticketing’ at the Transport Ticketing Global 2026 conference. The award recognises Denmark’s successful implementation of a nationwide mobile pay-as-you-go (MPAYG) ecosystem, setting a new global benchmark for speed, scale, and passenger adoption.

By transitioning from a legacy smartcard system to a software-led national platform, Denmark has successfully unified travel across all buses, trains, metros, and trams under a single digital account.

Agility at National Scale

The judges were impressed by the project’s unprecedented speed to market. By leveraging FAIRTIQ’s proven technology, Rejsekort launched the national app within just six months of contract signature — delivered on time and on budget.

The hardware-free solution has resolved long-standing passenger pain points, such as the requirement to manually "tap out" to avoid fines. The app now handles complex use cases that traditional hardware struggles with, including automatic discounts for seniors and group travel for up to 29 people.

Record-Breaking Adoption and Customer Satisfaction

The move to a mobile-first strategy has been met with overwhelming public support:

  • Market Leadership – Within 18 months of launch, the Rejsekort app surpassed a 50% market share.
  • Passenger Approval – 90% of travellers report that the app makes public transport easier — a 25% improvement over the previous card-based system.
  • Proven Reliability – The platform has already powered more than 80 million journeys across Denmark.

A Future-Proof Ecosystem

As the legacy smartcard system prepares for decommissioning in May 2026, Rejsekort and FAIRTIQ are ensuring no passenger is left behind. The partnership is currently developing the Basiskort, a physical pay-as-you-go solution that shares the same backend as the app, specifically designed for those who prefer not to use a smartphone.

“This award recognises that national integration is no longer a multi-year infrastructure struggle,” said Jens Willars, CCO for Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S. “By choosing a flexible, software-based path, we have delivered a ticketing system that is as simple as it is powerful.”

“Denmark is a global frontrunner in digital mobility,” added Gian-Mattia Schucan, Founder and Co-CEO of FAIRTIQ. “Winning Silver for a national rollout of this scale validates our belief that software-led solutions are the most efficient way to modernise entire countries while keeping the passenger experience at the very centre.”
