January 30, 2025 FAIRTIQ launches the first mobile pay-as-you-go ticketing solution in Italy with Arenaways

Turin/Berne, 30.01.2025 - FAIRTIQ, the app that simplifies public transport ticketing by allowing users to travel by public transport seamlessly with one swipe, is now available in Italy. Swiss company FAIRTIQ has partnered with Arenaways to launch the innovative mobile pay-as-you-go ticketing solution (MPAYG) on the formerly suspended line connecting Cuneo and Savigliano via Saluzzo in the Piedmont region. Additional lines are expected to follow soon. This collaboration marks a significant milestone for both FAIRTIQ, as it enters the Italian market, and for Italy, as it embraces MPAYG technology for the first time.

As of January 25, 2025, Italy welcomes back a new train operator: Arenaways. The company has revived the line between Cuneo and Savigliano via Saluzzo, which had been closed to passenger traffic since 2012. This newly reintroduced service, supported financially by the Piedmont region under a 10 year contract, is designed to serve both local residents and tourists, providing a vital connection within the region while enhancing travel opportunities for visitors.

On this occasion, FAIRTIQ was chosen as a mobile ticketing provider for its ability to launch a user-friendly solution without the need to install additional hardware. The company has demonstrated the effectiveness of its Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform, widely tested on the market and renowned for its reliability and user-friendly interface. Thanks to the FAIRTIQ application, passengers will be able to travel with a simple swipe on their smartphone on the new Arenaways line.

Matteo Arena, General Manager of Arenaways stated: «FAIRTIQ's innovative pay-as-you-go mobile solution completely fulfils our "Rail different" philosophy, which is based on full accessibility, comfort and a traveller-centric approach. The train is by far the most democratic transport system, and we firmly believe that it will play a key role in the mobility of the future».

Gian-Mattia Schucan, founder and co-CEO of FAIRTIQ, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to welcome Italian public transport users to the FAIRTIQ community. Italy and Switzerland share not only a border but also a deep and rich history. It is a true honor for us to contribute to the success of the new railway lines in Piedmont.”

The FAIRTIQ app will allow passengers to travel between Cuneo, Saluzzo and Savigliano and in a later phase between Ceva and Ormea without having to worry about which ticket to purchase, even as a family or group of friends. With the FAIRTIQ solution, accessibility and convenience are destined to redefine the public transport experience. FAIRTIQ is the first MPAYG ticketing solution to arrive in Italy, a country famous for its breathtaking railways.

FAIRTIQ’s rapid international expansion continues to attract new users worldwide.

How does FAIRTIQ work
Passengers download the app, start it with one swipe before entering the means of transport and receive a valid ticket without having to enter their destination. When changing trains or buses, the app automatically recognises the change and continues to monitor the journey. When the passenger arrives at the destination, they simply swipe to end the journey. If they forget, the app sends a notification or automatically ends the journey. The best available fare is then automatically calculated, and optimised on a daily basis.
