February 20, 2025 FAIRTIQ announces its first collaboration in Sweden

Falkenberg/Bern, 20.02.2025 - FAIRTIQ, leader in mobile ticketing, is pleased to announce its first collaboration in Sweden with Hallandstrafiken. The public transport company in the Halland region has chosen the Swiss company to pilot the first mobile pay-as-you-go (MPAYG) ticketing solution in Sweden.

FAIRTIQ will deliver a cutting-edge, user-friendly solution that simplifies multimodal travel across Sweden’s Halland Region. Hallandstrafiken, which manages 20 million public transport trips annually, will benefit from FAIRTIQ’s app. This solution enables passengers to travel seamlessly across all scheduled public transport services with just a simple swipe on their smartphone—no extra hardware required.

In practice, this involves assessing over a period of time the FAIRTIQ app’s capacity to identify trips accurately, including details such as routes, departure times and locations, arrival points, intermediate stops, and connections, all without relying on devices like beacons. The evaluation also includes gauging how customers adapt to the app’s mobile ticketing check-in/check-out features and testing new fare capping products. The insights gathered from this process will help shape Hallandstrafiken’s future ticketing strategy and offer valuable data on travel patterns and origin-destination trends.
“After simplifying our fares to make them fairer and clearer, our journey to make public transport easy to use continues with the introduction of the first mobile payment solution of its kind in Sweden. It is fully in line with our philosophy of introducing new services and options that place the customer at the centre.” said Andreas Almquist, Executive Director of Hallandstrafiken.

"We are excited to bring FAIRTIQ to Sweden and support the country's outstanding tradition of high-quality public services and user-centered solutions. Sweden's commitment to innovation and inclusivity aligns perfectly with our mission to make public transport seamless and accessible for everyone." said Gian-Mattia Schucan, founder and co-CEO of FAIRTIQ. His team of 140 people is committed to constantly implementing further innovations to ensure a better public transport experience for users.
The FAIRTIQ app will enable passengers to travel seamlessly on all scheduled services in the region without the hassle of figuring out which ticket to buy—even when travelling as a family or group of friends. As Sweden’s first "mobile pay-as-you-go" (MPAYG) ticketing solution, FAIRTIQ is designed to accommodate a diverse range of users, including seniors and individuals with disabilities, ensuring a truly inclusive travel experience.

About FAIRTIQ
With over 225 million trips completed, FAIRTIQ has established itself as the global leader and pioneer in postpaid ticketing and mobile pay-as-you-go (MPAYG) solutions. Serving more than 1 million active users each month, FAIRTIQ operates currently in eight countries—Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland. The platform provides regional coverage in 25 areas and national coverage in four, making public transport more accessible and user-friendly. Leading public transport operators and authorities rely on the FAIRTIQ solution - for instance, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) integrates FAIRTIQ’s technology within its own app under the name EasyRide. FAIRTIQ’s rapid international expansion continues to attract new users worldwide.

How does FAIRTIQ work
Passengers download the app, start it with one swipe before entering the means of transport and receive a valid ticket without having to enter their destination. When changing trains or buses, the app automatically recognises the change and continues to monitor the journey. When the passenger arrives at the destination, they simply swipe to end the journey. If they forget, the app sends a notification or automatically ends the journey. The best available fare is then automatically calculated, and optimised on a daily basis.
