Falkenberg/Bern, 3 September 2025 – Hallandstrafiken, the public transport operator for Sweden’s Halland region, has launched a pioneering pilot project with FAIRTIQ, the world leader in mobile ticketing technology. This marks Sweden’s first mobile pay-as-you-go (MPAYG) ticketing system, making public transport simpler than ever.
With just a swipe to start and end their journey, passengers can now travel seamlessly on all Hallandstrafiken services—trains as well as buses—without worrying about zones, fare levels, or ticket types. The app automatically calculates the best available price. No paper tickets. No pre-planning.
A test of seamless mobility
The pilot, now live, will evaluate the app’s user experience and gather passenger feedback, with user satisfaction and fare transparency among the key evaluation criteria. The project will also trial new fare-capping models and analyse customer preferences and travel patterns, with a particular focus on occasional travellers. Insights from the pilot will inform Hallandstrafiken’s long-term ticketing and pricing strategies. Hallandstrafiken is the first operator in Sweden to launch FAIRTIQ.
FAIRTIQ strengthens its Nordic presence
Following a successful nationwide launch in Denmark in 2024, where the “Rejsekort” app has already enabled more than 35 million journeys, FAIRTIQ has shown its ability to transform ticketing systems at scale. Building on this momentum, the company is now expanding further in the Nordics: alongside Sweden, a new rollout in Buskerud County, Norway, is underway.
