Bern, 18 March 2024. The cutting-edge ticketing app FAIRTIQ is about to get even better: As of now, FAIRTIQ users in Switzerland and Liechtenstein can check in not only themselves and their human companions, but also their dogs and bikes, all guaranteed to receive the right ticket at the best price.
The common notion that public transport is solely for human movement overlooks a significant aspect. Many of Switzerland’s 560,000 dogs frequently accompany their owners on buses or trains. In addition, many travellers bring along their bikes. FAIRTIQ addresses these needs with the same ease and convenience it's known for: a simple swipe to start the journey and another swipe, or the Smart-Stop function, to conclude it.
As of now, FAIRTIQ users can check in up to five dogs, five bikes - or a combination of both. This is in addition to the already available feature of adding up to four extra passengers. The system automatically selects the right tickets and displays them for all passengers, including any accompanying dogs or bikes in the app.
"This enhancement to include bikes and dogs aligns perfectly with the reality of many bus and train travellers' lives,” says Gian-Mattia Schucan, founder and co-CEO of FAIRTIQ. "We're thrilled to extend the full benefits of our app to them."
FAIRTIQ simplifies the use of public transport: it detects the route taken and calculates the optimal ticket. With price capping, the cost of multiple single trips in one day never exceeds the price of a day pass, and this now also applies to dogs and bikes.
The new function will be automatically activated in the FAIRTIQ app, requiring no separate activation. Users need to ensure their app is updated to version 7.1.0 or later. Initially available throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein, this service will soon expand to include FAIRTIQ regions in Germany.
Travelling with FAIRTIQ
Before boarding a train, tram or bus, passengers check in by swiping the app. This means they have a valid ticket for the entire public transport network in the corresponding region. When they arrive at their destination, they swipe again to end the cost calculation. The app uses location services to register the route travelled and calculates the correct fare.

Over 130 employees are involved in the operation and ongoing development of the product. FAIRTIQ was founded by Gian-Mattia Schucan in 2016 and is a private limited company with headquarters in Bern.
With over 150 million journeys in total, FAIRTIQ is the world’s most successful check-in/check-out solution available for iPhone and Android. FAIRTIQ’s partners include public transport companies and associations in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and France. Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) uses the technology operated by FAIRTIQ in its own app, EasyRide, and Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) also uses FAIRTIQ technology in its app.
FAIRTIQ users help saving more than 26 million tons of CO2 emissions per year through choosing public transport over higher emission modes of transport. This is equivalent to the yearly average CO2 emissions of over 6,600 Swiss inhabitants.
