Zlín/Bern, 19.02.2024. FAIRTIQ, a leading mobile ticketing provider, is set to deliver a digital solution to facilitate multimodal travel in Czechia’s Zlín Region. KOVED, the region’s public transport authority, has chosen the Swiss technology company as the preferred partner for developing an advanced mobile PAYG (Pay-as-you-go) regional public transport ticketing solution. The new service will be launched this year.
FAIRTIQ was selected on the basis of its ability to roll out a hardware-free solution to facilitate multimodal travel throughout the Zlín Region in southeastern Czechia. The company was able to demonstrate the effectiveness of its market-proven and fully hardware-free Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, known for its reliability and user-friendly interface. With FAIRTIQ, passengers will be able to travel on all means of public transport by simply swiping a button on their smartphone.
"We had been dreaming of being able to board a bus at Zlín Zoo, transfer at Holešov, and arrive in Kroměříž, all while an app effortlessly calculates and pays for the entire journey. Thanks to FAIRTIQ, it’s not just a dream but a near reality, transforming the way we use public transport," says Jakub Zach, Chairman of the Transport Committee, Zlín Region.
"In Zlín region, we are proud to be a leader in the transformation of public transport, not just in the Czech Republic, but internationally as well." added Radek Doležel, Zlín Region’s vice president for transport.
"We are particularly excited to welcome Czech public transport users to the FAIRTIQ family. The Czech Republic is known internationally for excellent public transport and Zlín has long been a laboratory for new ideas," says FAIRTIQ founder and co-CEO Gian-Mattia Schucan, whose 130-strong team is constantly working on further innovations.
The FAIRTIQ app will enable users to use buses, trolleybuses and trains throughout the region seamlessly. With FAIRTIQ's solution, accessibility and convenience are set to redefine the public transport experience. This marks FAIRTIQ’s first foray in the Czech Republic, a country famous for the density and quality of its public transport offering.
Travelling with FAIRTIQ
Before boarding a train, tram or bus, passengers check in by swiping the app. This means they have a valid ticket for the entire public transport network in the corresponding region. When they arrive at their destination, they swipe again to end the cost calculation. The app uses location services to register the route travelled and calculates the correct fare.
